Breakfast Shake

Good morning everyone! It's Friday! I know for me, Friday can be the dreadful start of a long weekend at work with back to back shifts. It's the awful sound of the blow horn at the beginning of the race. And sometimes we just lack the energy to even begin. However- I think this delicious and decadent tasting breakfast shake can add some "oomph" to your morning. It is packed with nutrition, protein, and fiber, without any excess sugar that could turn your stomach to sludge. So let's blend some things up shall we:

Ingredients:

* 1 frozen banana
* 1 cup of rice milk (or other alt milk)
* 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter
* 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract
* 1 handful of uncooked oats

Directions:

1. Throw that banana right on in-

As a side note, bananas are made up of complex carbohydrates and fiber which can keep you full and ward off cravings for longer periods of time than foods with refined carbs. Another interesting fact, according to the (Franklin Institute), is that the protein from bananas gives you 12 mL of tyrosine, an amino acid which "creates neurotransmitters that promote alertness, motivation, memory, and ability to focus."

2. Pour in the rice milk, cocoa powder, peanut butter, oats, and flavoring.

You might be asking why I decided to use rice milk. For those with a lactose intolerance and allergies to milk, soy, or nuts, rice milk is a safe alternative. It is packed with more carbohydrates, making it an excellent energizer, and has fewer calories than cow's milk. Additionally, it is naturally sweeter than most milks and gives a nice flavor to the shake.

Cocoa powder contains flavonoids which improves blood flow, reduces blood pressure, and is beneficial to overall heart health. Not to mention it has a generous dose of fiber.

Peanut Butter! Yum! So I'm allergic to nuts and whenever people see me eating peanuts I always tell them that, unlike nuts which grow in trees, peanuts are considered "legumes" and grow in the ground. I extended my knowledge a bit further and was surprised to discover that peanuts actually do flower above ground at first. According to (organicfacts), the magic happens when the branch of the flower touches the ground and begins to grow underneath. Moreso, peanut butter is a rich source of magnesium which plays an important role in muscle, bone, and immunity development.

Lastly the oats provide a densely nutritional fiber known as beta glucan which fights against harmful diseases. Markedly, oats provide antioxidants and prevent free radicals.

3. Lastly, lets blend that bad boy up! I personally like to use our nutri bullet. It's been a pretty loyal kitchen appliance and I would highly recommend investing in one if your a smoothie addict like me.

So with that being said I won't keep you any longer. But feel free to treat yourself with this desert tasting pick me up that is sure to sustain your energy levels and keep your focus charged throughout the day.

Hope your day is just swell ;)
